NOMAD Electric Bicycle Concept
The Nomad Electric Bicycle was designed for today’s novice cyclist who desires to travel to work on an integrated electric bicycle. Features a rechargeable battery with a traveling distance of 50 miles, convenient storage glove box, and an easy to read display on the handlebars.
Project Duration: Spring 2017 (15 Weeks)
Rider Survey
To begin the design process, I conducted a survey among traditional bicycle and electric bicycle riders in order to gain an understanding of their transportation choices and needs. Over 100 people responded, providing a variety of answers that were expected and some not expected. Most importantly, the survey showed two main factors for use of an electric bicycle for travel; first, that this was a sustainable mode of travel with little impact to the environment and the second factor was the financial cost and space limitation of maintaining a car vs. a bicycle. In addition, the survey showed bicyclists felt a negative perception for using an electric bicycle as the ‘lazy man’s option’ which today would be obsolete due to the overwhelming desire by many for clean living, clean air and protection of the earth.
Inspiration
Concept Development
The concept development was split into two seperate themes, moto inspired and unconventional. After this I further developed an unconventional inspired design that became the final design.
Final Design
The final design was a combination of an unconventional frame design and moto inspired styling and tank. The final CAD model was done in Autodesk Alias, rendered in Keyshot and touched up in Photoshop.
